My 30 Before 30 List

For a 27-year-old woman, I’ve accomplished a lot of things I’ve always dreamed of. However, there are still a lot of things on my list that I want to achieve. Last summer, I put together my 30-before-30 list, and I’ve started to chip away at it, but I’ve still got 24 items to tackle. Some of them will be crossed off soon (hello, published novel!), but some feel miles away (triathlon, anyone?). But I’m renewing my commitment to achieve these things before 31 July, 2021 so that I can set even higher, loftier goals for myself in the next decade! So here’s a breakdown of my list and the progress/challenges for each one:

  1. Launch a business
I’ve done this! I’ve been a freelancer for ages, but Regale Media was launched last year, I helped a friend launch her business this year, and I have two more coming up in the next year.

  2. Have a novel published in print
Pre-order The Summer House in Santorini here for the US and here for the UK. I will cross this off when I have my paperback edition.

  3. Have a nonfiction article or fiction short story published in print
To be fair I have done ZERO work towards this.

  4. Save £10k on my own
I’m so rubbish at saving, because the second I have any money I want to spend it or reinvest it! I’m getting better though, so maybe this one can still happen.

  5. Get a UK driving license
This one probably won’t happen for a while still, but it’s not a difficult one to do since I’ve driven for 12 years back home!

  6. Visit 4 continents
I’ve obviously spent plenty of time in North America and Europe, I’ve been to South America several times, and now we’ve been to Asia! Next up is Africa!

  7. Go skiing or snowboarding
To be fair I have done both, but not since I was a kid, and they both ended badly. I’d like to give it another go.

  8. Go for a proper spa weekend
Thanks to my gorgeous girls for a great hen weekend last summer!

  9. See the Northern Lights
Iceland and Norway are both high on my travel list, so hopefully we’ll squeeze this one in.

  10. Go camping/backpacking with Alex
It’s really just about convincing him to cram his 6’5” self into a tent… won’t go well I imagine. But he has promised me we’ll get this one done.

  11. Go on a dinner cruise
We went on a jazz dinner cruise in New Orleans on our honeymoon!

  12. Cosplay at a major con
This one will be difficult, as I don’t think any of the UK cons are big for cosplay. I’ll have to ask around. Looks like we’re going to San Diego, babe…

  13. Attend a white-tie or red carpet event
No idea why anyone would invite me to one of these, but oh well! It’s on the list!

  14. Perform onstage in some capacity
Probably going to have to bribe my mother-in-law’s pantomime troupe to achieve this one.

  15. Get decent at tennis
Note how vague I made this one… we have a membership to the tennis courts down the road, but we only go a handful of times per year. Basically I want to be able to play a full game without it being a complete wash.

  16. Be vegetarian for a month
I *kind of* did this one last June, but I slipped up on the first day and finished two days early. But I’m crossing it off anyway because my meat consumption has gone down significantly since then.

  17. Make a dress with my own two hands
I don’t even have a sewing machine, so this one is probably a pipe dream.

  18. Learn another language (not Spanish!)
I’m thinking Italian because my mouth refuses to speak French properly. I thought about being ballsy and going for something totally different like Russian or Greek or Japanese, but who am I kidding?

  19. Improve Spanish
That reminds me, I need to re-install DuoLingo… maybe I can find a meetup nearby?

  20. Eat a tasting menu dinner at a Michelin star restaurant
Honestly this is the one I’m least worried about finishing. We both love food so much that we’re bound to make it happen. Technically the chef at our favourite local restaurant has had two stars, but at previous restaurants.

  21. Take a cooking class at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris
Alex isn’t too keen on Paris, but I am determined to be Blake Lively and so must do this.

  22. Host Alex’s family for a four-course dinner party
Getting them all over to the house is DIFFICULT, but I’m thinking Thanksgiving? Just a fancier version?

  23. Host a themed dinner party
I planned a murder mystery dinner for the Christmas party for the office I was working at this winter, so I’m counting that.

  24. Make a croquembouche
Gotta learn how to make profiteroles first to be fair…

  25. Learn to make macarons in at least 3 flavours
I’m not great with the highly technical stuff, so this should be interesting.

  26. Create 50 of my own dessert recipes and collect them in a nice recipe box
So far I have two dozen, and almost all of them are cookies or cake. I should probably back away from the comfort food and try some of the above items.

  27. Raise money for charity through a challenge, race or fundraising event
I plan to tie this in with one of the below goals.

  28. Run a 10k in under an hour
I ran a five-mile race in October, but ya girl has run like twice since then, so it’s going to be a tough one. I’m working up to it.

  29. Compete in a sprint-distance triathlon
Let’s worry about the 10k first before I try to add cycling into the mix…

  30. Compete in an obstacle course race
My sister in law ran one last weekend, so I’m aiming to do the same one with her next year!

If you have any suggestions or tips for helping me finish off my list, let me know!
